Having gone through a $5.5 million, five-year, renovation the park is now an enhanced asset to the community. Home to a large public pool, pavilions for hosting a events, walking trails, baseball and softball fields, a gazebo for outdoor events, a brand-new amphitheatre, and much more. Firestone Park has something for everyone looking to enjoy the outdoors.Centennial Park 1500 East Pershing St. SalemNot the only park in the City of Salem, but the oldest, Centennial Park opened in 1906 and is located just off East State Street and offers 26 acres of outdoor options in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood surrounded by old dense oak trees. Some of the park's assets include seven picnic shelters, two basketball courts, three tennis courts, two baseball fields, an outdoor playground, a 9-hole disc golf course, and a swimming pool with a splash pad.East Palestine Park 31 Park Ave. East Palestine East Palestine's municipal park is located on the southwest side of the village, and offers a public swimming pool, four tennis courts, an outdoor playground, three baseball fields, and walking trail in a wooded section of the southeastern quadrant of the park. In June 2022 a new disc golf course opened within the park. The community center for East Palestine is also located in the park.Beehive Coke Ovens 999 Cherry Valley Rd. Leetonia In the late 1860s the Village of Leetonia was a bustling place in large part because of the Beehive Coke Ovens. For almost 60 years, the coke ovens purified coal which was used in iron production and sent by train to steel making hubs. Today this park includes 10 acres of land that showcases the history of the site and an additional 25 acres of a nature preserve. The site was linked to the Greenway Bike & Hike Trail in 2016, offering over 12 miles of paved path for outdoor recreation. A history and education center is planned for future development.Willow Grove Park 38250 US Route 30 Lisbon Willow Grove Park and the Sadie VanFossen public swimming pool and splash pad are located in western Lisbon on both sides of the Little Beaver Creek. Some of the park's features include an outdoor playground, two tennis courts, a basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. Due to its location along the Little Beaver Creek, Willow Grove Park is a birdwatching hotspot. One the eastern side of the park runs the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail, and the southernmost trailhead sits just to the south of Willow Grove Park's entrance.Thompson Park 2626 Park Way East Liverpool Situated in the hilly terrain of the Ohio River Valley is Thompson Park in East Liverpool. This park has over 100 acres of recreational opportunities for residents of the city. The park itself is heavily forested, and has three tennis courts, pavilions, a baseball field, disc golf course, and a public swimming pool. The park hosts regular community gatherings and events, especially around the holidays. Adjacent to the park is the East Liverpool County Club and its nine-hole golf course. Waterworth Memorial Park 700 Sunset Blvd. SalemThe largest park in Salem, Waterworth Memorial Park, has 55 acres of open outdoor space. There is a one-mile-long nature trail loop that runs throughout part of the park and a large pond with an island and gazebo that greets you at the park's southern entrance. Home to three tennis courts, five baseball and softball fields, a 6,000 square foot pollinator garden and an adult fitness area. There is also a dog park on the northern side of the park. During the warmer months, the Orashan Memorial Civic Center hosts outdoor concerts and family movie nights. Hellbender Bluff 14448 East Liverpool Road LisbonThis county park has over 730 acres of forested and open land linked by trails on both the north and south sides of the Little Beaver Creek. Easy access to the park is available near State Routes 7 and 11. There are over five miles worth of exploring on five distinct trails which traverse Hellbender Bluff. From a leisurely stroll in the open fields to a more challenging hike along the bluffs north of the Little Beaver Creek where hikers can enter a deep gorge full of tall mature trees and native wildflowers. The park is also a protective habitat for the endangered giant salamander that calls the area home: the Hellbender. Heading south along the Bluff Trail will lead parkgoers down to the Little Beaver Creek with tremendous fishing opportunities. The park really is like two in one with major reclamation and reforestation efforts having taking place in the southern portions where coal surfacing mining took place, and the undisturbed forest and steep cliffs of the northern sections.Scenic Vista Park 11523 Wayne Bridge Rd. Lisbon Scenic Vista Park is four miles west of Lisbon and was the first park acquired by the Columbiana County Park District. Back in the 1970s, 250 acres of new land were opened to the public for open outdoor recreation space. Most of the park is hardwood forest with some hiking trails weaving throughout the trees. Other areas of the park have a pavilion, historic log cabin, covered bridge, and archery practice range. The park also hosts one of the more widely known and used 18-hole disc golf courses in the area.Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail 7 trailhead locations along the trail This popular bike and hiking trail connects 12.5 miles of Columbiana County countryside linking the Village of Lisbon to the Mahoning County line in Washingtonville. The trail itself has many unique and interesting features passing along its route including wetlands, mature forest ravines, a historic covered bridge, a bicycle shop at the southernmost trailhead, and the Coke Ovens Park in Leetonia - home to 200 coal-fired ovens from the 1860s that have been turned into a nature preserve. The Little Beaver Creek Greenway is attractive to outdoor enthusiasts at all times of the year with cyclists who come in from across the region and surrounding states to enjoy the diversity in scenery and attractions along the beautiful pathway set amongst the rolling farmland and forest of north central Columbiana County.Beaver Creek State Park Near Fredericktown Near Fredericktown, over 1,100 acres of protected forest, along with the Little Beaver Creek scenic river, offer abundant outdoor activities from kayaking, hiking and fishing. In 1998 the State of Ohio recognized Beaver Creek as the state's 20th protected forest. The rolling heavily wooded topography offers great views across the valleys that the Little Beaver Creek created thousands of years ago. Adjacent and directly southeast of Beaver Creek State Park, this area of Columbiana County is very popular with campers and dotted with campgrounds offerings. The park is also a popular weekend getaway for residents of the larger surrounding metropolitan areas.Salem Community Center/CenterPlex 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave. SalemThe Salem Community Center offers a wide variety of options for residents of the City of Salem and surrounding communities. The Salem Community Center was built in 2002 and the CenterPlex was built in 2015. Both facilities are adjacent to one another and offer a multitude of indoor recreational opportunities from indoor swimming amenities to basketball, football, and soccer activities. There is a large fitness floor adjoining the natatorium, and TuDor Physical Therapy has an office inside of the complex. There is also separate space for community and corporate gatherings.Calcutta YMCA 15655 SR 170 East Liverpool The Calcutta YMCA is located in Saint Clair Township at the Calcutta Square shopping center. This facility offers amenities such as an indoor swimming pool and indoor basketball courts, and a workout facility with treadmills and weight lifting.
